Privacy Policy

mDNSRadar for macOS and mdnsradar.app · Effective 27 October 2026

In short

mDNSRadar does not collect, store or transmit any personal data. It contains no analytics, no tracking, no advertising and no third-party SDKs.

This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics. Its web server keeps a short access log with shortened IP addresses for 7 days, as described under “This website”.

What the app does on your network

mDNSRadar uses Bonjour (multicast DNS and DNS Service Discovery), provided by macOS, to listen for and query services announced on your local network. This traffic stays on your local network. The app does not connect to the internet or to any server.

The devices, services, addresses and records it discovers are kept in your Mac's memory only, so the app can show them to you. They are never saved to disk or sent anywhere, and they are discarded when you quit the app.

What is stored on your Mac

The only thing mDNSRadar stores is your setting for how long inactive items stay in the list. It is saved in the app's preferences on your Mac and never leaves it.

App Store and Apple

When you download mDNSRadar from the Mac App Store, Apple processes data such as your purchase according to Apple's privacy policy. If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers, Apple may provide the developer with aggregated, anonymous usage and crash statistics. The developer receives no personal data from Apple.

This website

The developer runs the web server for mdnsradar.app on a server rented from STRATO AG, Berlin, Germany. The server is located in Germany. STRATO provides the hardware, network and data center and processes data only on the developer’s behalf, under a data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR).

When you open a page, the web server records an access log entry with: your IP address in shortened form (the last block of an IPv4 address and everything after the first 48 bits of an IPv6 address are removed before it is stored), the date and time, the requested page or file, the response status and size, the page you came from (referrer) and your browser’s identification (user agent). Because the address is shortened, the entries cannot normally be traced back to you. The log is used only to keep the site secure and to find errors, and entries are deleted after 7 days. The legal basis is the developer’s legitimate interest in a secure, working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

The website sets no cookies, uses no analytics or tracking, and loads no fonts, scripts or other content from other sites. Links to the Mac App Store and to Apple’s website take you to Apple, whose privacy policy applies there.

If you choose Light or Dark appearance, your browser stores that choice on your device (local storage) so it applies on other pages too. It is never sent to the server, and choosing System deletes it.

Your rights

Because mDNSRadar processes no personal data about you, there is nothing for the developer to access, correct or delete. If you have questions about this policy or about data protection, you can contact the developer at any time. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.
